METHODOLOGY
Sri Lanka's 2024 inflation: +1.2% or −0.4%?
Why this gap?
The IMF follows the official Colombo Consumer Price Index, whose 2024 annual average the Sri Lankan central bank puts at +1.2%. The World Bank series is computed from a monthly CPI base that tracks the national NCPI index until August 2024 and the Colombo index afterwards — two indices at different levels — which yields −0.4%, an annual average matching neither official index (CCPI +1.2%, NCPI +1.6%).
