DEFINITION
Argentina's state: 15% or 31% of GDP β and both are shrinking
Why this gap?
The IMF measures total general-government expenditure β pensions, subsidies, interest and investment β which fell from 37.6% to 31.0% of GDP in the 2024 fiscal adjustment; the World Bank tracks only government final consumption (16.3% to 14.9%). The adjustment is visible in both series, but its size depends on which definition of "the state" you ask about.
